As part of Mercedes-Benz’s NEON LEGACY project, a section of the Schlupfwinkel youth club in Berlin-Moabit was gradually transformed into a vibrantly colored art court in late summer 2024. Over the course of several weeks, artists Rommygon and festin nocttturno worked on-site to redesign the wall and basketball court.

Despite occasionally changeable weather conditions, close collaboration with CONCRETE CANDY, the youth club, and numerous supporters resulted in a space where urban art and sports visibly come together. The open approach allowed visitors to experience the creative process firsthand and turned the project into a gathering place for the neighborhood even while it was still under construction.

The completed NEON LEGACY Art Court blends tropical imagery, dynamic forms, and vibrant colors into a unique work of art. The bold mural and the playing field visually intertwine, creating a new stage for movement, connection, and inspiration.

The newly redesigned court has created a space that goes far beyond its athletic function: a place that fosters a sense of identity for young people in Moabit, promoting creativity, community, and self-efficacy. The Art Court exemplifies CONCRETE CANDY’s approach to sustainably revitalizing public spaces and reimagining them in collaboration with local stakeholders.

The grand opening of the Art Court brought together artists, partners, children, and young people from the neighborhood, as well as numerous guests from all over Berlin. Together with Mercedes-Benz, the new court was officially inaugurated and immediately came to life.

A special highlight was the visit by tennis legend Roger Federer, who opened the court and shared sporting moments with the local youth. Accompanied by talks, activities, and workshops, the event became a vibrant celebration of art, sports, and community—right where it has the greatest impact: in the midst of people’s everyday lives.
